Before choosing a crypto or card-to-crypto payment gateway, it helps to know exactly where fees come from. The headline percentage is only part of the picture. Here’s a plain breakdown of the costs involved in a typical payment and how WerninBill prices them.
The three layers of cost
1. The gateway’s platform fee
This is what the payment gateway charges for its service: generating payment addresses, running the hosted checkout, handling callbacks and forwarding funds. At WerninBill this is a flat 1% of each successful transaction, with no setup, activation or monthly fee.
2. The payment provider’s fee
When a customer pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, a licensed on-ramp provider processes that payment. Providers charge their own processing fee, which depends on the provider, the customer’s country, the card type, the currency and the amount. This fee is separate from the platform fee.
When a customer pays directly in crypto, there is no card provider involved.
3. Blockchain network fees
Every on-chain transaction pays a network fee (often called “gas”). These are very small on networks such as Polygon, Arbitrum or BNB Chain and higher on Ethereum mainnet or Bitcoin at busy times. This is one reason many merchants prefer receiving stablecoins on low-cost networks.
A worked example
For illustration only: on a $100 payment, the WerninBill platform fee at 1% is $1.00. Any provider processing fee and network fee are additional and depend on the payment method used. Your effective total cost is the sum of all three layers.
Questions to ask any gateway
- Is the headline percentage the platform fee only, or does it include provider fees?
- Are there setup, monthly, withdrawal or minimum-volume fees?
- Are funds forwarded instantly to your own wallet, or held and paid out on a schedule?
- Which networks are payouts made on, and what do they cost to use?
Summary
WerninBill keeps its own fee simple: 1% per successful transaction, nothing else. Provider and network fees depend on how the customer pays. Full details are on the pricing page. To get started, pick an integration on the merchant integration page.
